Gold: Currency or Commodity?
“Gold is behaving not just as a commodity right now, it’s really behaving as a currency,” Suki Cooper, commodities analyst at Barclays Capital, told CNBC after gold hit another high in trading.
In an unrelated segment. Eugen Weinberg, senior commodity analyst at Commerzbank, told CNBC “We need to look at gold as something different than normal commodities which are really profiting from the scarcity (of) the supply and demand,”
Eugen Weinberg sees price gains ahead for bullion in the 3rd and 4th quarters:
“We need to look at gold as something different than normal commodities which are really profiting from the scarcity (of) the supply and demand,” Eugen Weinberg, senior commodity analyst at Commerzbank, told CNBC. “We need to look at the gold as a currency, and the currency is being driven by the developments in Europe.” Weinberg also explores the relationship between the U.S. dollar, interest rates, and gold.
